R.I.P., Reatard…

[Today, January 13, 2011] marks the one year anniversary of the death of garage-rock hellraiser Jay Reatard. A slew of Reatard products are in the works for 2011, according to an announcement on Reatard’s website, including a documentary film, a greatest hits album, and reissues from his bands the Reatards and Lost Sounds. And there’s more…

Back in April 2009, Reatard relaunched Shattered Records, the indie label he’d first started in 2004. As part of the relaunch, Reatard started the Shattered Club subscription series. According to that same announcement on Reatard’s site, members of the Shattered Club will soon receive a 7″ containing two songs, “You Get No Love” and “I Am Growing”, that Reatard recorded at home just two days before his death. They’ll be the only people to get those songs, too; it won’t be sold in stores or offered for download. The 7″ will come with a personal note from Cheap Time’s Jeffrey Novak, a friend of Reatard.

Shattered Club members are also set to receive a 14-song live album recorded at Australia’s Golden Plains Festival in 2008 as well as a t-shirt featuring a watercolor by artist Nicholas Gazin. Like the 7″, these items will only be available to Club members.

You can still get Shattered Club memberships on Reatard’s website.
