1.Yes yes nick whats the styles, how are you? what up big styles?
Nick:
thanks for the questions and its great to know u my brother. Im feeling pretty open at the moment.
2.what joy do you find in being an creative human?
Nick:
can’t pin point the exact joy or feeling I get but I do love and respect myself as a human and that allows me to be aware of others around me and do the same for them.
3.do you feel connected to the interplanetary world?
Nick:
very very strongly. and i can feel the others around me that are connected. I am very open to the cosmic world, and the energy and colors flowing around us. I feel blessed that I allowed myself to connect to this world. Learning to embrace my dark side has helped me travel very deeply into the interplanetary world.
4.what’s your take on the ancient faiths of the world?…do these faith’s have any effect on the way you see the universe?
Nick:
mixed feelings for sure on this one… basically I take a little of this and a little of that from ancient faiths but i don’t follow or worship one particular faith.
5.do you feel that there exist an universal creative tribe?…if so what kind of strength do you get from the tribe?
Nick:
I feel you are either on one side or the other. I try and walk the rightious path and make this world a better place. I mean when u meet someone u can tell right off if they get it or don’t. If they are on the level. If they care to be.. Once you are on the level than if u are open and your inner walls are down enough, you can connect and communicate in a whole different way.. no words, just feelings, colors, and energy.
6.what effect does music have on what you create? its everything.
Nick:
it is a channel to other worlds.
7.does your family overstand what you do?
Nick:
110% and I fucking love them for that!
8.say what ever you want to say!
Nick:
Get connected with your true self. Respect others around you, especially their personal space. Slap my mind!
Marcus Burrowes was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Raised in the Rasta faith, he was heavily influenced by Jamaican reggae culture. As a child he was drawn to the art he saw on the album covers of his favorite reggae artists, which fired his creative passion and led him to experiment with art. He later moved from Kingston to California, living in both Santa Monica and Venice Beach, and his painting led him to New York’s Parsons School of Design. Marcus is also the founder of and creative force behind Rockers NYC, and has since done merchandise design for Mad Cobra, Santogold, The Roots, and Blood Brothers, and collaborations with photographer Shawn Mortensen, SPIN, Vibe, Cassette Playa, Swagger, Maharishi, and Vanguard. His work is also featured in the Draw Show currently hanging in the Museo Nacional de Arte in Mexico City.
Marcus has been hard at work since arriving in the Bay Area in early July, designing and screenprinting canvases and posters, creating installations, and painting a floor to ceiling mural covering an entire wall of the gallery, giving the viewer a taste of Burrowes’ unique mixture of reggae and punk influences. Come by on July 23rd from 8-11 PM to check out new prints, installations, and clothing from Marcus’ line, Rockers NYC. Refreshments provided by Blue Angel Vodka.
