Welcome to the latest edition of Pitchfork’s Guest List. Each week, we ask one of our favorite artists to fill us in on what they’ve been up to lately: which tracks they can’t stop spinning, what books they can’t put down, and what new bands they’ve caught on tour. This week it’s El Guincho, aka Pablo D?ɬ?as-Reixa, who clues us in to the source of some of his album’s obscure samples, avoids overpriced record shops in the UK, and talks about his favorite block of wood.
>> Favorite Songs From the Past Year
Last summer I became obsessed with this song by High Places called “Golden”. I love the way it’s mixed and how the little percussion sounds fly around the stereo. Their sense of rhythm, too, is not particularly upbeat but you can find all these accents and subdivisions. By the end, it all becomes a mess but still catchy. Beautiful.
