Last year, my topshop was Loveless, which is still a serious contender. I was happy to see that Sean and Marcus got some priority placement in the store with Rockers NYC. Half the staff was decked in the apparel as well, and the bright colors were an effective contrast to Loveless?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ Pirates-of-the-Carribean-esque motif.
RockersNYC is the hot new streetwear line to hit the market. This may sound like a redundant term around these parts, but fresh color palettes and screamingly loud punk designs, give RockersNYC that undeniably staying power.
Marcus Burrowes, is the Creative Director and Sean Reveron, the self-proclaimed ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCultural Engineer?¢‚Ǩ¬ù to the brand. These guys have a knowledge of self and worldly cultivation that clearly shows they?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re not just about a pretty line of t-shirts.
As part of the business process, Sean and Marcus fly across the world to Japan for production so often, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s like they?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re riding the New York transit. For inspiration, travelling around the world on the regular is a necessity. If this is not considered massive movement, then what really is?
New Age Steppers started as a one-shot project featuring Mark Stewart from the Pop Group, Style Scott, George Oban of Aswad, Ari Up from The Slits, Bim Sherman and Neneh Cherry. Lead guitar was supplied by Keith Levene, who was the musical mainstay of Public Image Ltd.
British producer Adrian Sherwood was the only constant in the New Age Steppers, an ever-changing jam session that included members of the Slits, Public Image, Rip Rig + Panic, Raincoats and the Pop Group. The records are a melting pot of synthesized New Wave and Reggae, transmuted through dub studio techniques. In practical terms, that amounts to variations on a theme or, more accurately, a rhythm. And this rhythm is life.
